About Kudawella Blow Hole or Hummanaya
The humble fishing village of Kudawella is home to one of nature’s unique natural phenomenon – the Kudawella Blow Hole. Also known as the Hummanaya, this natural attraction is found within a narrow crack on a long rock close to the sea. When the sea is active with strong winds and waves the blowhole is known to shoot a white stream of water to a height of 25 meters. However when the sea is calm the height is much less. It’s named Hummanaya in Sinhalese as the water makes a distinct hoo sound as it comes gushing through the gap!
Apart from musing over the workings of the blow hole, you can also enjoy a beautiful and refreshing view of the sea which is laid before you at the top of the rock! It’s said that you can even catch a glimpse of the hills belonging to Sinharaja Forest in the distance.
