About The Tea Museum Hantane

Sri Lankan Tea has a name for itself in the international market. Many travel miles and across borders just to visit our tea growing estates and taste the finest home grown tea our little island has to offer. While in Sri Lanka if you haven’t visited a tea plantation then you haven’t experienced one of our country’s cornerstones!

One such cornerstone is the vintage Hantane Tea Factory which has been converted into a museum and is currently known as the Ceylon Tea Museum. Situated 4km south of Kandy on the Hantane Road, the Ceylon Tea Museum hosts a collection of artefacts that give us an insight into the beginnings of tea production in Sri Lanka. You’ll find exhibits on tea pioneers such as James Taylor and Thomas Lipton and a variety of antique tea-processing equipment. There are also guides who will be able to take you for tour around the Museum and factory. At the end of the tour take a step back and enjoy a fresh cup of tea on the house!
