About Nuwara Eliya
Nuwera Eliya is unlike any traffic congested roads and heavily populated urban area. Instead this hill city in the central province is surrounded by misty mountains, green scenery and a lot of fresh air! Hence it's definitely not your typical city.
According to the history of Nuwera Eliya it was founded by an explorer named Samuel Baker who also discovered Lake Albert (Uganda) and explored the Nile River (Africa) in 1846.
Nuwara Eliya also once known as 'Little England' is famous for its cool climate, and tea! It's climate enables it to be one of the most important tea production areas in Sri Lanka. There is much to see and do in the city, from exploring Mount Pidurutalagala, the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka to partaking in pony races, and visiting historical places.

Getting into Nuwera Eliya
Nuwera Eliya is accessible by train, bus or a private vehicle however the easiest way to go to Nuwera Eliya is by bus or a private vehicle. There are several buses leaving the Colombo Pettah Bus stand in Fort, next to the Colombo Railway station. There are no direct trains to Nuwera Eliya but you can catch a train to Nanoya, from there you can take a bus or tuk-tuk to Nuwera Eliya. Getting around Nuwera Eliya
Most Sri Lankans travel around cities and towns by tuk tuk aka three wheelers. Note that it's a rule of thumb to fix the price before getting into a tuk tuk to avoid paying more than required unless of course the tuk has a meter. It will also help if you can ask locals how much it’s to get to your destination just to be sure you are paying the right amount. Having said that you can also travel by bus which is the most affordable way and you can ask locals to help you. The bus conductors will also be able to help you in any way that they can. Make sure you have small change in the form of coins and notes when going by bus instead of large notes. For example Rs.50, 20, 10 and a few coins.
