About Galways Land Bird Sanctuary
ituated within the bustling city limits of Nuwera Eliya is a slice of green heaven for both birds and nature lovers alike! This piece of green is known as the Galways Land Bird Sanctuary and is merely a 15 minute drive from Spring Acre. The sanctuary was initially declared as a wildlife sanctuary on the 27th of May 1938, thereafter it was declared as a national park in 2006. The Bird Sanctuary is supposed to have been established to protect the montane eco system of our country. Galways provides shelter and a sense of home to the 20 rare migrant bird species and 30 native species, making this attraction the ideal spot for bird watchers! Some of the types of birds spotted are the Dull-blue Flycatcher, Sri Lanka White-eye, and Yellow-eared Bulbul. Migratory birds include Indian Blue Robin, Pied Thrush or Scaly Thrush lurking in the denser undergrowth. The Kashmir Flycatcher is another striking bird species that you may spot.
