About Victoria Park
At the centre of Nuwera town is a green wonderland adorned with a variety of tress that contribute to the peaceful atmosphere which surrounds Victoria Park. Established in 1897 local tales say that the origins of the park is rooted in a single Oak tree planted by a German prince who visited Nuwera Eliya.
Adding a splash of colour to the well manicured landscape of the garden are the blooming flowers that come alive between March and May. It’s said that some of these flowers you won’t be able to see anywhere else in the island. The park is also home to families of hill country birds which makes bird watching at the Victoria Park a popular activity. If you are lucky you might be able to spot the Kashmir flycatcher, Indian pitta and grey tit. The park was named after Queen Victoria in 1897 to commemorate her Diamond Jubilee.
